Dry Cat Food
We feed our kitties a wonderful brand of food called Diamond Naturals Active Cat which is made in the USA. Bengals MUST have high protein food! We order ours from Amazon or Chewy. This food is not sold in most pet stores. You can find it at some co-ops.
Wet Cat Food, Freeze Dried Raw, & Treats
We are currently feeding our kittens and cats Blue Buffalo Wilderness High Protein Grain Free, Natural Kitten Pate Wet Cat Food Chicken & Salmon flavor. We will also mix in Tiki Cat wet food in a few different varieties. We also love the Instinct Freeze Dried Raw. We use it on top of dry food and even as a very healthy treat. Remember when choosing wet food to avoid by-products and get one that says no corn, wheat, or soy. Sometimes when kittens arrive at their new homes they don't want to eat. The Tiki Cat baby mousse is great for this issue. They can't resist the flavor. If you are getting a kitten from us and you want them to transition really well I would get all the recommended foods below. Our kittens also really enjoy Blue Buffalo Bursts treats.
NuVet Plus Vitamins
All of our boys, moms, and kittens are feed NuVet Plus. We mix it into every bag of dry food that we open. It's essential for a young kittens immature immune system. Whether you choose to keep your kitten on NuVet or not I would like EVERY ONE taking home one of our babies to purchase at least one container of NuVet to help keep their immune system strong and healthy through their first few months of life. For more information about NuVet Plus and why you should give your kitty vitamins read here.
Food and Water Bowls
It's best to use heavy ceramic bowls with bengals. Bengals don't overeat so if you have a nice big food bowl you can fill it up and your kitty will eat when they are hungry.
Bengal love love love very fresh water. If you want to splurge you can get your bengal a water fountain to drink from. The other benefit is that drinking fountains filter the water. Our bengals only have filtered water at our house. I wouldn't let my children drink tap water and I'm not going to let my cat babies drink it either. Here's some of our favorite cat fountains.
If your going to stick with a traditional bowl fill it with filtered fridge water, bottled water, or you can get an inexpensive Brita pitcher like this one. It reduces chlorine, copper, mercury, and cadmium. It's much better for you and your fur-babies.
We use the Van Ness basic litter box with a lid and carbon filter for our kittens. You can get the exact same one from Amazon using link below. Walmart and Target usually have one similar too but they cost a little bit more. Below are the links for the regular size and the extra large.
I HATE scooping litter boxes. Over the years and years of taking care of fur-babies I have learned the easiest most cost effective way of cleaning a litter box. Buy the 30 pound bag of Tidy Cat non clumping cat litter, fill the box about 2-3 inches full, when it starts to get too dirty I dump the entire box and refill. It's just that easy! Clumping cat litter is SO expensive! Every time I was scooping a "clumping" litter the clump would break apart and leave tiny bits of urine soaked litter all over the box. So even though the box was just cleaned, it wasn't really clean and it still smelled bad.
TIP: Buy some inexpensive small garbage bags, bring the litter box outside, dump the old litter in the bag, seal shut and place in outdoor trash can. Done! No scooping and no nasty litter dust flying in your face.
***You can find these way cheaper at most local stores. I just wanted to provide the pic so you could see what the bag looks like***
Scratch posts are a must for new kittens. They need to have a place to sharpen their claws. The ones our cats like best are the ones made of sisal. It's great to get a few extra small ones and hang them from doorknobs or using command hooks. That way no matter what room your kitty is in they have a special spot to scratch. TIP: spray catnip spray on the scratchers to attract you cat to them and lessen the chance of them scratching furniture.
Bengals really love to be able to perch somewhere up high. A cat tree for a bengal is a must. They will really love you for it. The ones at the pet stores are sooooo over priced. Here are some of the best priced ones on Amazon with free shipping. In leopard pattern of course! Most of these also have solid color options that are a little cheaper.
If you're limited on space or want to treat you kitty to a second special spot just for them these are great smaller options too. We have the 28" and the door cat tree.
Collar and ID Tags
It's very important that you always keep a collar and ID tag on you cat. Your kitten will come microchipped, however many people won't take the time to bring the cat somewhere to see "if" they are microchipped. But they would likely call a phone number on a tag if they found a lost pet.
All the kittens here wear colored velcro collars so you will be able to identify who is who in the videos. This also really helps when you put a real collar on them for the first time. They really don't mind it compared to kittens who have never experienced the sensation of wearing a collar.
When they first go home very few collars will fit them properly because their neck is so tiny. The best ones I have found are by a brand called Lil Pals. I've seen them at Pet Co and Pet Smart for $9.99. They are 6-8 inch adjustable by 5/16 inch width. They really fit great and will last quite a few months before you will need a bigger size. Here's some cute ones sold on Amazon.
For cats you want an ID tag no bigger than 1 inch in diameter. They really don't like anything too big swinging from their neck. You can order a customized one with all your info on it for your baby so you know if they get out they will find their way back to you. Here's some nice options that are 1 inch or a little less and this size will be perfect for kittens or adults.
Here's so products that are really cool for bengal cats. They love running on cat wheels!
Cat wheels are really great for bengals. The one we have is small and only our kittens can use it. You have to get one that's at least 40" in diameter and even bigger than that would be better. The one I hear the best things about is the Ziggy Doo cat wheel but it's really expensive. It has a 48" diameter. The One Fast Cat Wheel has a 43" diameter but supposedly it's not as sturdy. Here's a great thread on reddit with people who have bought the wheels discussing them.
City Kitty Cat Potty Training
Toilet train you Bengal!!! This really works! I've had many of my clients use this kit to potty train their Bengals. Only $29 and so worth never scooping or buying expensive cat litter. Find it here on Amazon.
Luckily bengals are very easy to train! These products will help.
PetSafe Ssscat Cat Spray Deterrent
This is one of the best cat products I have ever bought! Not only is it good for cats, but you can use it to scare the crap out of your kids! It took ONE spray from this and Katie never jumped on my counter again. Amazing... SSSCat Cat Deterrent on Amazon. You will get 80-100 sprays out of one can and the refills are here.
These are SO great! Keeps kitty out of trouble!
Any time we see any of our kitties have tummy issues we always treat with probiotics. Cooked chicken along a good probiotic will help get cats and kittens back to normal as quick as possible.
Toys Toys Toys!!!
Bengal cats love to play with toys! The more the better! We like to rotate what toys we have out for them to keep it interesting. We have tested out so many different types and brands. Here's some of our favorite ones.
SmartyKat FishFlop Crinkle Catnip Toy. Bengals LOVE these cat nip infused crinkle fish! The size, shape, and texture must be just ideal to them because I find that all my fetching bengals started fetching these toys first. Some of them will only fetch these fish. I get mine from Amazon.
Interactive Cat Toys
Interactive cat toys are wonderful for learning and keeping your cat busy. They are especially good if your cat will be alone while you're at work. Here's some really great choices.
For interactive toys that swing a feather or teaser around the round rolling style bases are best. If you get one with a flat base your bengal will knock it over no matter how heavy the base is.
These interactive puzzle toys for cats are amazing. Bengals are very smart cats. You kitty will love the challenge of these toys and they will keep them busy for hours.
Here's a few more of our cats favorite interactive toys. Your kitty will have fun hunting the mice or chasing the balls.
Cat Litter Attract
This stuff is quite amazing! Your kitten will come to your home litter box trained but they have to learn their way around the house and remember where their litter box is. This REALLY helps them with that. It's also amazing if you have a problem cat that's using the potty outside of the litter box. One of my boys, Twilight, has by choice not used his litter box for years. Don't worry this is not some issue that you could have with your kitty. He's a stud boy and they act quite a bit different than neutered boys. And since he has his own nice big enclosure outside it doesn't really affect anyone where he decides to do his business. But it's not fun for me who gets to use a pooper scooper to clean it up. I bought this just to see if maybe possibly it would work and it did! I was shocked. And pretty mad at myself for waiting so long to try it. I highly recommend having this on hand when your kitty is first learning their way around the house. One container will do. There's no need to have to keep using it after that.
Special Lounge & Sleeping Spots
Your cat will absolutely LOVE any of these special nap spots. Bengals love to be up high and these are the perfect wall or window mounted spots just for them.
This one is a set of three. It includes a hide out, hammock nap spot, and step. We have this for our cats.
Ultimate window seat for kitty! Heavy duty suction cups so you won't have to put any holes in your wall.
Hide Outs & Beds
Cats love to curl up in a cozy spot and have a nap. They also love to ambush friends, toys, and people! Here's some of our favorite beds and hide outs for Bengals.
One of my clients told me about this and how much her bengal loved it. I ordered one and wow! They will play in this for hours!
If you want to take your kitty out exploring the safest way to do it is on a walking harness. Bengals learn to walk on a leash just like a dog would. (a little faster in my opinion)
These are my favortie for trips to the vet and for cargo shipping.
For those of you wanting to know what spray I used that made your kitten smell so good when you took them home, here ya go! :)
Whether it's a cat, dog, or kid if an accident happens you will want to use a highly effective enzymatic cleaning product. These are the most effect products that I have found for cleaning pet stains. They also have a massive amount of reviews on amazon with high star ratings. I use a combination of each and always use the orange one last because it's got a really nice smell. In my experience Natural's Miracle is just a huge waste of money.
